The ex-leader of East Dunbartonshire Council has been jailed for 22 months after swindling thousands of pounds from a former partner.

Andrew Polson, who was also director of a Christian charity radio company, was found guilty by a jury of stealing £186,000 from the 72-year-old woman between May 2021 and March 2022.

The 53-year-old induced her to transfer money to him under the false pretence that she was investing in two homes and a lettings firm.

However, prosecutors proved that the then Conservative politician put his sole name on the title deeds of both properties without telling her and used the woman's money to fund his own lifestyle.
