The Government has responded to calls to introduce free bus travel for care leavers across England. Currently, only disabled people and people of state pension age qualify for free bus travel under the The English National Concessionary Travel Scheme (ENCTS).

Older people and many people with a disability , including blind and deaf people, can travel free of charge on most local bus routes between 9.30am and 11pm on weekdays, and all day at weekends. In a written question to the Government, a Manchester MP called on Labour to expand this eligibility criteria to include care leavers due to the "potential merits" of the decision.
