QUEBEC — Quebec Liberal Party Leader Pablo Rodriguez has called in an external auditor to investigate allegations of a vote-buying scheme in his own leadership campaign.

“The allegations published today are extremely serious,” Rodriguez said in a statement issued Wednesday.

“Because we take this situation extremely seriously and we want to shed all the light (on them), I have asked the president of the Liberal Party of Quebec to mandate an independent external auditing firm to conduct a complete investigation, to analyze all the facts and draw the necessary conclusions.”

The Liberals were reacting to a report Wednesday in the Journal de Montréal suggesting members of the party were compensated financially for supporting Rodriguez in last spring’s Liberal leadership race, which Rodriguez
