Poetry meets punk in Karen Schoemer’s new record August , which was recently released by Dromedary Records. Drawing inspiration from Bernadette Mayer’s experimental 1971 work Memory , Schoemer’s latest is a collage of sound and verse shaped from a month’s worth of writing and polished at Herman Melville’s historic Arrowhead estate. Known for her past life as a music journalist and literary voice, Schoemer now steps firmly into the role of performer with help from a star-studded lineup of collaborators including Mike Watt, Amy Rigby, and Steve Almaas.
