NASHVILLE, Illinois — As an a man and his wife collected tin from a barn for a DIY house project Sunday, he fell off a ladder onto a pole that went through his right shoulder and into the left side of his neck.
John Davis, a 45-year-old man from Nashville, Illinois, has been in the ICU at St. Louis University Hospital since the accident. Doctors told the family he has seven broken ribs and a collapsed lung, and the road to recovery could be six weeks or longer.
Tammy, Davis' wife of 22 years, held his head as she waited for the EMT to arrive on the scene. She says they were at the barn collecting tin when the ground gave way and caused the ladder to sink into the soil.
"I saw him fall," Tammy said. "I went over to try and pick him up and he was like, 'It's in me,' I wasn't understanding
