DOUGLAS, AZ (AZFamily) — A retired southern Arizona police sergeant is accused of leading law enforcement on a chase toward New Mexico earlier this week.
On Monday around 3:30 p.m., Douglas police officers were called for reports of an injured suicidal man who was driving a truck near 9th Street and A Avenue . The man was identified as David Acosta, a retired sergeant with the Douglas Police Department.
Officers were notified that Acosta was roughly 10 miles east of Douglas, driving on Highway 80 toward New Mexico. Officers attempted to pull over Acosta due to concerns for his well-being and for the public’s safety.
