LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Cooking a Thanksgiving dinner will cost less this year, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation’s (AFBF) 40th annual Thanksgiving dinner survey .
The report shows the average cost of a traditional holiday meal is $55.18, or about $5.52 per person, marking a 5% decrease from 2024.
In Michigan, the average price is even lower, $51.80, well under the national average.
A significant drop in turkey prices helped drive overall costs down. The average price of a 16-pound turkey is $21.50, a decline of more than 16% from last year.
While wholesale prices for fresh turkeys are up compared to 2024, retailers are offering deeper promotions and holiday deals to boost demand, resulting in lower prices for shoppers.
