A 19-year-old UC Berkeley student who was hospitalized last week after nearly drowning during a party at a fraternity has died, police said Wednesday.
The student was found unresponsive last Friday night at a fraternity on the 2400 block of Prospect Street, according to police. They were rushed to a local hospital and listed in critical condition.
In an update released Wednesday, police said they had learned that the student had died. The Alameda County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
Police said they do not suspect foul play was involved.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family, friends, and the wider campus community,” police said in a statement. “The harm felt by this tragic loss is profound.”
