A Maumee man received a five-year prison sentence Tuesday for a fatal, high-speed crash in South Toledo that killed a passenger in his vehicle.

The sentence Steven Wallace, 29, received in Lucas County Common Pleas Court from Judge Gary Cook was in the middle of the range for the second-degree aggravated vehicular homicide count to which he had pleaded no contest Oct. 8.

Four other counts in Wallace’s indictment, including third-degree involuntary manslaughter and operating a motor vehicle while impaired, were dismissed Tuesday in accord with his plea agreement.

Juan Espinosa, 35, was a passenger in Wallace’s vehicle when it crashed Oct. 4, 2024, on South Avenue, east of I-75 near the Maumee River grain elevators.
