LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - A former babysitter is on trial for second-degree murder in Calcasieu Parish, charged with the death of a baby in her care.

On Jan. 23, 3-month-old Kairo Anderson died of a brain bleed and multiple skull fractures. The day prior, he was in the care of Shirley Sawyer Johnson for three hours, according to Kairo’s mother, Symone Anderson.

When Symone got to Sawyer’s house, she thought he was asleep, but she later realized he was limp and unconscious, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Kayla Vincent said. Symone brought him to the hospital immediately, and he was airlifted to a hospital out of town, where he died.
