(WPTA) - The Indiana National Guard will be deploying 300 soldiers to Washington, D.C. in December.

According to the Indiana National Guard, the deployment is to help increase safety in the nation’s capital.

The deployment, authorized by Indiana Governor Mike Braun, comes after a request from the D.C. National Guard.

“Hoosiers are proud of our Guardsmen,” said Braun. “We are grateful for their service and support in our nation’s capital.”

The Indiana National Guard says that to prepare for the deployment, soldiers will conduct training at Camp Atterbury before departure.

Additional training will be provided by the D.C. National Guard when the troops arrive on the ground.

The mission is expected to last no longer than four months.
