NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine (WABI) - Two adults were killed and four children were injured after a crash on I-95 in New Gloucester Wednesday morning.

State Police say it happened around 4:30am on the southbound side of the highway when the driver of a GMC SUV pulled over after the U-Haul trailer they were towing became detached from the trailer ball on the vehicle.

They say the trailer was only connected by safety chains.

The driver pulled over but the trailer was still partially in the road.

Six people were in the GMC, including four children ranging in age from 7 to 14, all from Lewiston.

The man, the woman and two of the children had gotten out of the vehicle to help fix the issue with the trailer when an Audi SUV hit the trailer and the GMC from behind.

The woman died at the scene.
