FARMINGDALE, Maine (WABI) - An assisted living facility in Farmingdale hosted a ribbon cutting on Wednesday unveiling a new name.

For ownership and faculty, it represents much more than just a new title.

“We wanted to create a space that was for the resident but also for the family because those two things work hand-in-hand,” said Owner Lindsey Burrill.

The Captain Lewis Residence, an assisted living facility in Farmingdale, will now be known as Kennebec Assisted Living and Respite.

Burrill and her family bought the space after losing her grandmother.

She calls it a passion project to create an ideal environment for older folks who can’t live at home.

“For us it meant taking down the barriers regarding visiting, creating a welcoming environment for family, friends, and the community
