EAST GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Residents are suing the city of East Grand Rapids to try and block a controversial Gaslight Village project that would be the area’s largest development in decades.
A resident-led group called Gaslight Village Responsible Development filed a lawsuit Wednesday, Nov. 19, in Kent County’s 17th Circuit Court against the city of East Grand Rapids and Clerk Lori Parmenter.
The group is claiming the city ignored state zoning laws to rush the Gaslight Village project through the first round of approvals. The residents are asking a judge to force the city to repeal the concept plan for the project, or put it to a public vote and halt the project until an election is conducted.
