An Indiana woman says a hospital turned her away while she was in active labor and she gave birth in a car less than 10 minutes later.
The family says the baby, which wasn't due for another couple, arrived eight minutes after Mercedes Wells was discharged from Franciscan Health Crown Point as she was in the car.
"I feel like my family's rights have been violated," Cherice Joy Thompson, Wells' sister-in-law, told CBS Chicago .
After giving birth, Wells' brother continued to drive her to a different hospital in the area while other family members called 911.
Thompson said "911 was able to call the hospital and give them notice that they were coming, and so there were 15 doctors and nurses outside waiting for them to arrive."
