MUNSTER, Ind. (WBBM) - A mother and father are demanding policy changes at an Indiana hospital after they claim they were turned away and left to deliver their own baby in their car.
Video posted by family to Facebook shows Mercedes Wells being pushed down the hallway of the Franciscan Health hospital in Crown Point in a wheelchair. Her family says she was in active labor, but hospital staff told her because she was only dilated 3 centimeters, she would have to come back later.
Wells’ sister-in-law, Cherice Joy Thompson, says eight minutes after Wells was discharged from the hospital, her baby was born in the car with the help of her husband, Leon.
