The UK government has accused a Russian spy vessel of directing lasers at Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots in a "deeply dangerous" attempt to disrupt British surveillance operations near UK waters. Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that the Yantar, a Russian intelligence-gathering ship, used the lasers while being monitored by British forces in recent weeks.

Healey said the incident is being taken "extremely seriously", warning Moscow that the UK remains prepared to respond if the vessel alters its course or escalates its actions.
