FAIRFIELD, Texas — The Fairfield Police Department is wishing a fond farewell and a happy retirement to Police Chief David Utsey.

The department announced Utsey's retirement in a post on social media, thanking him for his years of service.

According to Fairfield PD, Utsey has been in law enforcement for 33 years, beginning his career with the Freestone County Sheriff's Office under the guidance of Sheriff JR Sessions.

After his time with the Sheriff's Office, Utsey became a Sergeant with the Fairfield Police Department, eventually being appointed Chief of Police in 2019, the department said.

Fairfield Police said during his tenure, Utsey "facilitated the modernization of the Fairfield Police Department, yielding notable success."
