The Madison County Sheriff's Office recently concluded its Citizens Academy, offering a unique glimpse into the roles law enforcement plays in the community. The graduation took place Tuesday night inside the Madison County Detention Facility, a location media hasn't accessed in more than 15 years.
Madison County Sheriff Kevin Turner emphasized the importance of transparency.
"They want to know what’s going on in their sheriff's office and I think that’s what we try to do here is share it with them," Turner said.
Over the past seven weeks, participants learned about the various departments within the sheriff's office, including the street crimes and K-9 units. Jacob Fanning, a senior crime scene investigator, highlighted their proactive approach.
