A new partnership in North Texas is helping people get critical medical care— without having to leave their pets behind.

Parkland Memorial Hospital and the SPCA of Texas have launched a program aimed at improving health outcomes for both people and their animals.

When Mark Deveraux arrived at Parkland in urgent need of care for congestive heart failure, his top concern was his German Shepherd, Sapphire.

“She wasn’t letting anybody near me, and I was scared I was going to lose her,” Deveraux said.

Instead, Parkland staff contacted the SPCA of Texas. Behavior supervisor Dre Floyd worked to earn Sapphire’s trust.
