NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Weapon detection systems are being added to more schools in Nashville and across the Midstate every week, but experts have a new warning that these systems alone will not keep schools safe.
The National Association of School Resource Officers is tracking weapons that get into schools despite detection systems and has already found nearly 50 incidents nationwide over the past four school years.
That includes a deadly stabbing at a Phoenix high school in August, where a student got a pocketknife through the scanners, and when four students were shot at a Dallas high school in April after the gunman got past security by going through a backdoor.
