Indian cricket team captain Shubman Gill has been officially ruled out of the must-win second Test against South Africa, scheduled to begin in Guwahati on Friday.
The development comes as a significant setback for India, who are trailing in the two-match series after a 30-run loss in the opening Test at Eden Gardens, where Gill’s absence during the second innings was sorely felt.
Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test, forcing him to skip India’s second innings chase of 124.
Although he was initially admitted to a local hospital for observation and later discharged, the medical team has advised him against participating in the physically demanding five-day format until he completes a full rehabilitation cycle.
