As temperatures drop below a certain point, some households across the country could be entitled to extra help towards paying their heating bills.
Cold Weather Payments, which are paid by the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP), are an automatic payment given to some eligible households when it gets especially cold. The payments are given to people who claim certain benefits or who receive Support for Mortgage Interest.
The scheme normally runs from the start of November to the end of March each year and payments are given to eligible households when the temperature in their area is recorded or forecast to be zero degrees celsius or below, over a period of seven consecutive days.
