Despite the prospect of extra money for many households in the coming months due to plummeting temperatures, some could miss out despite being eligible.

The Cold Weather Payment, a scheme provided by the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ), provides those claiming certain benefits with £25 for every seven consecutive days where temperatures drop to 0C or lower, reports Express.co.uk.

The initiative, which kicked off on November 1 this year and will run until March 31 2026, could see more households across the nation receiving the payment this week as temperatures have taken a significant dip.
