MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The man charged with the deadly shooting at Wolfchase Galleria on Monday appeared in person for his arraignment Wednesday morning.

Yahir Mejia, 22, is charged with second-degree murder despite his claims of self-defense.

He appeared before a judge for the first time since a chaotic scene broke out just days ago at Wolfchase Galleria.

You may have seen the video posted to Yahir Mejia’s Facebook Live not long after police believe he shot and killed Erik Sandoval inside the mall.

In it, he said, “Self-defense, bruh. Don’t put your hands on me and think **** isn’t going to happen.”

And now Mejia is in court, where he’ll have to prove that shooting Sandoval three times was done in self-defense.

But, as Mejia’s attorney made clear, there’s still a long way to go.
