FORT HOOD, Texas — Fort Hood may become the site of a micro nuclear power plant as part of the U.S. Army's nuclear power program, the Army has announced.
According to the U.S. Army, Fort Hood is one of nine military installations selected for consideration as sites for microreactor power plants under the Janus Program.
The Army said the Janus Program aims to "deliver secure, resilient and reliable energy to support national defense installations and critical missions in accordance with EO 14299 Deploying Advanced Nuclear Reactor Technologies for National Security ."
The program will reportedly build commercial microreactors in a "milestone-based contracting model" in partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) in an effort to "accelerate delivery of advanced energy solutions to
