MEXIA, Texas — Mexia High School head football coach Aaron Nowell confirmed with KCEN that he is resigning as head coach and athletic director on Wednesday.

Nowell will continue serving as athletic director for the rest of the school year.

This season, Mexia finished the season with a 1-9 record. Their lone win came against Groesbeck in the annual Battle of the River rivalry game.

Back in 2022 , Coach Nowell resigned as head coach and AD after two seasons.

Nowell served in the role on an interim basis in 2021, after Brady Bond resigned from the role one week before the regular season started.
