LOUISVILLE, Ky. —
It's been a series of unfortunate events for the future Park DuValle Community Food Center, which was anticipated to open this summer.
The $3.3 million project set to include a farmer's market, food pantry, training kitchen, event space and on-site childcare, aims to be a bright spot in this underserved area.
But thieves keep trying to dim the light at the Wilson Avenue property, delaying progress.
“The break in this time, they stole a heater,” said Swannie Jett, CEO of Park DuValle Community Health Center.
The HVAC system and copper wire were also stolen from the building on different occasions. Repeated thefts and burglaries were also reported at the neighboring Family Dollar, contributing to the store's pending closure.
