JACKSON, MI — The city of Jackson will provide 100 residents with exterior cameras in efforts to deter and solve crime in neighborhoods.

Jackson City Council unanimously approved the 12-month “Eyes on the Block” pilot program to install the cameras in high-crime areas in the city. The program aim is to increase neighborhood security by aiding in Jackson police investigations.

Mayor Daniel Mahoney supported the $50,000 proposal, referencing the recent death of his 18-year-old niece Mia Sims , who was shot outside a Jackson church. He said updated equipment can make a difference during investigations and could help families in the future.
