BRIDGEPORT – The University of Charleston and West Virginia State each produced one all-Mountain East Conference volleyball team member in awards announced on the eve of the conference tournament on Wednesday.
Golden Eagles setter Abby Avila and Yellow Jackets middle blocker Nicole Gartner Custodio are among nine all-conference first-teamers.
The all-conference teams and superlatives were selected by a vote of league coaches, according to an MEC release.
Avila has 906 assists and 40 aces for the Golden Eagles (20-12, 11-4 MEC), who are scheduled to meet Wheeling at noon on Thursday to open the league tournament in Buckhannon.
Gartner Custodio has 238 kills, 45 blocks and 110 assisted blocks for WVSU (15-12, 9-6 MEC), which opposes Fairmont State at 7:30 p.m. in the Thursday quarterfina
