A teenager is dead following a one-car crash north of Charleston on Wednesday afternoon.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash, which occurred in the 7100 block of Rocky Fork Road in the Sissonville area just after 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Metro 911 received the initial report from another driver at about 4:10 p.m., as well as an Apple crash notification alert.

Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling from Sissonville southwest toward Cross Lanes when it drifted into the oncoming lane, according to a KCSO news release. The vehicle then sharply corrected back into its lane of travel, exited the roadway, went into a ravine along the Pocatalico River, landed on its side and struck a tree, the release states.
