(KY3) - If you’re thinking about adding a furry friend to your family this holiday season, don’t get scammed.

“It’s horrible,” said Joseph Steele. “I don’t get how people can do that to one another.”

Steele thought he was getting an adorable puppy for his mother. He found the so-called breeder on Facebook and sent a $300 deposit. He was told to buy Apple gift cards and relay the numbers on the back. When it came time to get the dog, there was a problem.

“She told us the dog was sent to a holding facility, which was strange, and told us we had to pay $150 more just to have the dog delivered to our house. I’m like That’s not happening,” said Steele.

That’s a red flag. Experts with the Better Business Bureau say scammers will always make up an excuse to get you to send more cash.
