SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - A new sound wall will go up on the south side of I44 from the National Avenue bridge going west. It’s part of the expansion of the interstate in north Springfield.
So, we’ve had some questions about sound walls . Our viewers want to know, why do some areas get sound walls and others don’t?
“When they took out the trees, boy, it really got loud. So now we definitely need it,” said Greg Nall, who has lived near the area for the last quarter century.
The sound wall will replace the natural barrier of trees that used to be there. Crews removed the trees for the highway expansion project, increasing noise levels for nearby residents.
MoDot only considers sound walls when expanding a highway, such as when lanes are added.
