Sometimes teams just need a restart.
Take the Santa Ynez boys basketball team, for example.
The Pirates entered halftime trailing Pioneer Valley High School 29-25, but the second half told a different story.
Santa Ynez outscored their opponent 26-7 in the third quarter en route to a 70-54 win on Tuesday night.
It was the second win over the Panthers in as many years.
“The message was that we needed to execute,” Pirates coach Rod Caughell said. “If we could do that, we would run them out of the gym.”
Santa Ynez took an early lead in the opening moments but the Panthers rallied as senior De’von Bolden made three straight bucks including back-to-back 3-pointers to take a slim lead after the first quarter.
The Pirates were held to just four field goals.
