CASSELTON, N.D. — There was a common theme among Central Cass volleyball players at practice on Tuesday.
“We were peaking at the right time,” senior outside hitter Izzy Thompson said. “Not that the regular season was bad, but we definitely were peaking during the postseason which was the best case scenario.”
The word “peaking” popped up several more times in reference to a Squirrels team that last week mounted an incredible run through the Division A, Region 1 tournament to punch their ticket to state for the first time in eight years.
That run entailed No. 3 seed Central Cass earning a sweep of No. 6 Lisbon in the quarterfinals before back-to-back, five-set victories over tournament host Valley City in the semis and defending region champion Fargo Oak Grove in the title match.
