Fire officials say a Rancho Cordova woman saved a sleeping homeowner after spotting smoke coming from a house near Zinfandel Drive. Ashley Rand-Estrada was returning home from picking up her son when she noticed the fire. After knocking with no response, she went inside, called out, and woke the homeowner, allowing both to escape safely. Rand-Estrada then used a garden hose to spray the flames until firefighters arrived. Officials say the fire could have been much worse without her “heroic” actions.
