AUSTIN, Texas — City leaders announced on Wednesday night they will be delaying a vote to approve a new contract for Austin firefighters.

The city has asked the Austin Firefighters Association (AFA) to return to the bargaining table to address some concerns about the tentative agreement . Council members want to know if the union plans to launch a petition campaign to push the city to staff each fire engine with at least four firefighters.

In a statement on Wednesday night, city leaders said council will not vote on Thursday until they receive a formal response from the AFA.
