SHREVEPORT, La. — Christian Service, a local hospitality nonprofit known for serving two hot meals a day year-round, is experiencing a sharp increase in demand. Staff say the number of guests seeking meals has nearly doubled since the start of November, a spike they attribute in part to the government’s temporary pause on SNAP benefits. Executive Director Al Moore said the organization typically serves between 85 and 95 people at breakfast and about 150 at lunch. This month, those numbers have risen to roughly 200 for breakfast and more than 250 for lunch. “Think about it — you can’t do anything being hungry. You can’t study. You can’t work.
