BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - The fight over how East Baton Rouge Parish divides its 2026 budget escalated as officials warned that proposed cuts could force drastic decisions, including the possibility of the city being sued.
The first in a series of public budget hearings on Wednesday, Nov. 19, drew sharp concerns from several constitutional offices, many of which say they are facing potentially damaging reductions.
East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore told council members he is considering legal action if his office does not receive what he calls fair and adequate funding for the upcoming year. He said such a lawsuit would be a last resort, but the possibility is on the table.
