BOISE, Idaho — A local after-school program that serves dozens of Treasure Valley teens is fighting to keep its doors open.
The Boise Brick House, operated by the nonprofit Families and Youth of Idaho, has been serving high schoolers since 2021. Recently the future of hundreds of thousands of dollars FY Idaho receives from a federal SAMHSA grant and state funding has become uncertain, leaving the Boise Brick House scrambling to raise money or risk closure.
"We run out of funds by Christmas," said Alex Shriver, youth programs manager at Families and Youth of Idaho.
To operate the Brick House, it costs FY Idaho $72,000 a year. Now, the organization is turning to the public to help raise almost half of that amount with a GoFundMe campaign.
