BOISE, Idaho — A Canyon County judge on Wednesday sentenced a woman to prison for the murder of her husband, bringing an emotional end to a case prosecutors say involved a planned trip across state lines to carry out the killing.
Melissa Calumpit, 36, was sentenced to 27 years fixed with the possibility of probation for first-degree murder after prosecutors said she drove from Nevada to Idaho in July 2024 to kill her husband, Travis Calumpit.
Emotions ran high in the courtroom as prosecutors outlined how Melissa and her mother crossed into Idaho after plotting the attack. Travis was later found shot to death at the Martin Landing Campgrounds.
