MT AIRY, Md. — A Maryland farm is joining the growing fight over a major powerline project that could cut straight through its fields.

Gaver Farm is a popular destination for apple picking, Christmas tree shopping, and family events. It sits directly in the proposed path of the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project.

It's a roughly 70-mile transmission system planned across four Maryland counties.

"None of this is for Maryland," said Lisa Gaver, co-owner, "It harms Maryland."

Lisa Gaver has run the farm with her husband since 1983.

The project is being developed by PSEG, a New Jersey energy company, on behalf of PJM. PJM operates the power grid across 13 states. According to PSEG's website, the system will strengthen Maryland’s electric reliability. But Maryland’s Office of the People’
