Phulbani and the entire Kandhamal district have been reeling under severe cold for the past two weeks. Mercury continues to dip, intensifying the chill and forcing residents to gather around fires in the evenings.

On Wednesday, Phulbani recorded a minimum temperature of 9°C, while Daringbadi—often called the “Kashmir of Odisha”—registered 8.5°C. On Thursday, Phulbani measured 11°C and Daringbadi 11.5°C. Udayagiri reported the lowest temperatures, ranging between 5°C and 7°C.

The biting cold has disrupted daily life.
