Londoners looking to earn a few extra bucks this holiday season have had to stare down at a softer, more challenging labour market, with part-time, seasonal job openings down compared to a year ago.
According to data collected by the Elgin Middlesex Oxford Workforce Planning and Development Board, the number of part-time jobs available has been steadily declining over the past several months, sitting in October – a time when many businesses begin ramping up hiring for the holidays – six per cent lower than the same time in 2024.
“This is the first time in over a year that we started to see fewer jobs compared to last year,” said Petrusia Hontar, executive director of the workforce development agency.
