Universal Children's Day on November 20 commemorates how 35 years ago, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child ( UNCRC ) entered into force, after the United Nations General Assembly adopted and opened it for signatures. This legally binding document contains 54 articles outlining the fundamental rights of every child . With 196 countries as signatories by July 2022, it is the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. All U.N. member states but one have ratified the Convention. That country is the United States of America. On the 35th anniversary of the UNCRC entering into force, the U.S. should finally join 196 countries and ratify the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.
