The Adivasi Adhikar Rashtriya Manch (AARM) has strongly criticised the Supreme Court’s recent order permitting post-facto environmental clearances for projects that commence operations without prior approval. The organisation said the ruling overturns the earlier Vanashakti judgment and legitimises environmental violations in the name of development.

“This regressive judgment is nothing but a reward for violators of the law,” said Jitendra Chaudhury, National Coordinator of AARM, in a press statement issued on Thursday. He said the decision undermines the precautionary principle that forms the foundation of environmental protection in India.
