A rare “faint-hope” hearing began Wednesday at the downtown Toronto courthouse, where a woman is asking a jury to recommend she be released from prison early from her life sentence for the axe murder of her boyfriend.
Prosecutors are opposing Nicola Puddicombe’s request, arguing that she only recently accepted responsibility for her involvement in the love triangle murder of Dennis Hoy, back on Oct. 27, 2006.
The 36-year-old GO Transit special constable was hit six times in the back of the head with the blunt end of an axe.
Three years later, Puddicombe, 52, was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment, making her unable to apply for parole until she has served the automatic maximum of 25 years, a date set for May 2032 — unless her “faint hope” applicatio
