WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - After consultation with veterinarians, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and the Women’s Pro Rodeo Association have canceled this weekend’s Prairie Circuit Finals Rodeo in Mulvane.

The organizations said there are confirmed cases of equine herpesvirus, also known as EHV, in the region.

According to reports out of Texas, the outbreak of EHV is linked to the recent World Championships Barrel Racing finals near Waco.

Those reports said it is unclear how many horses have died from the outbreak.

Signs of EHV-1 can included fever, nasal discharge, depression, stumbling, weakness and loss of tail tone -- and even abortions in pregnant mares.
