A police officer in Bergen County was injured this week when a driver ran a red light, crashing into his patrol vehicle two blocks off Route 17, authorities said.

The crash occurred shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday when the driver failed to stop at a red light, entered the intersection of Franklin and Terrace Avenues and collided with the cruiser, according to a police department spokesman.

The officer and the other driver were both conscious when first responders arrived.

The injured men were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the spokesman said.
