Amazon is sending automatic refunds to millions of Prime subscribers following a historic $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The refunds stem from a lawsuit claiming that the e-commerce giant enrolled customers in Prime subscriptions without consent and made it difficult to cancel.
The settlement, finalized under the Trump-Vance FTC, requires Amazon to pay $1.5 billion in customer refunds and a $1 billion civil penalty, as well as to cease its accused unlawful enrollment and cancellation practices. Eligible Prime members may receive up to $51 in refunds.
The FTC said Thursday that Amazon will distribute refunds in two stages. The first stage, which runs Nov. 12 through Dec. 24, provides automatic refunds to eligible customers through PayPal or Venmo. Cust
